I also don’t remember the EW version being this dark of a blue either. I feel like the kit could have looked better with a lighter blue in the mix. A few more good points and nitpicks, one being the lack of two toned blue colors. I can’t remember if it’s anime accurate or not, but I just genuinely like the color and don’t see it very often, so it’s cool with me. I also liked the green color of the beam sabers. This design managed to get rid of that entirely by sandwiching the two large halves of the gun vertically, rather than the usual horizontal style so that was great! That being that they always have that huge seam line running through the middle. The two beam rifles were a nice change up in terms of how most other beam rifles are made. The legs just seem to have depth to them with the armor separation and the gaps in it showing off the frame a little bit. The legs were actually quite complex, and to me is the second best looking part of the build, the torso being the next. Although, I will add that the arms just seem like they are lacking in ingenuity compared to the legs. Adding the smaller frame parts to the overall frame was interesting, along with adding the actual armor parts to it too. The frame is solid, same as most RG kits in this design from that time, so really no complaints there. I’m guessing the new MG ver ka version is probably just as fun and unique, so that would be something that would make me want to get that kit at the very least. It was fun making those and adding the feathers. The design of the larger wings though is pretty cool actually. I felt no real creativity in those, and they just felt like two large hollow plastic parts, much like an old HG kit. The back wings are just pathetic overall if I’m being honest, as compared the the two larger wings. They all feel and look like they just don’t belong on an RG kit in my opinion. Specifically the red parts used in the feet, the yellow v fin, and the two back wings on the backpack. For starters, some of the runner parts to me felt like cheap plastic. This kit has some good qualities in terms of the build, but also has some concerning and bad qualities as well. Idk I just always thought it was a larger mobile suit. It’s definitely smaller than thought it would be, even for a 1/144 scale kit. The wings are an interesting design, but I’ll talk more about those later in the blog. I mean it’s from 2014, and the RG line was still in my opinion finding its way in the world, but it was a step in the right direction I think. I would say upon building it, it’s really nothing too fancy. Also because I got this kit on sale for only $16. I think the RG Crossbones is a phenomenal build, given its a much later design. I wanted to see how it compared to its successor being the MG Ver Ka and as well as the RG Crossbones. I only got it after I built the RG Crossbones. I mentioned before I’m not the biggest fan of the EW version from the Wing movie. So if I’m being honest, I never really sought out this kit.
